The Samsung Galaxy Mini, also known as the GT-S5570, is an entry-level version of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphones. Released in early 2011, the Mini is one of the least expensive smartphones using the Android operating system. It is available in trendy case colors such as white, lime, and orange, as well as the standard steel grey. As an entry level smartphone, the screen resolution is not as high quality as the Galaxy S and it lacks Flash support, but millions of happy consumers think the lower price tag is well worth the trade-offs.

Although the Galaxy Mini is a GSM phone, it is shipped with a SIM lock preventing you from being able to use your phone with carriers other than the one from which you purchased it. The carriers request that the SIM cards be locked before the phones are sold to their customers.

For unlocking a Samsung phone, you’ll need a Samsung-specific code to remove the SIM lock with which the phone is shipped. The Samsung unlock codes are 8 digits long.

In order to get valid Samsung unlocking codes, you will need to purchase the unlock codes from a vendor. You simply provide the vendor with the make and model of your cell phone, along with its IMEI number. They will send you the Samsung unlocking codes you need for unlocking the cell phone. You will also need to buy a SIM card that is associated with a phone carrier other than the one which is your phone carrier, but those are inexpensive and easily purchased at any cell phone store.

Once you receive the new SIM card and unlock code, you don’t need anything else to be able to unlock your Galaxy Mini. Simply follow these steps.

1. Power off your phone.

2. Remove your existing SIM card, and replace it with the new SIM card for a carrier other than the one which is your current carrier.

3. Power on your phone.

4. The phone will either ask you for your password, or warn you that you have an incorrect SIM card and tell you to insert the correct one.

5. If you receive the password prompt, simply enter the unlock code you were given. Otherwise, enter the following code string, where nnnnnnnn is the 8-digit unlock code you were given: #7465625*638*nnnnnnnn#

After successfully unlocking the Samsung phone, you will be able to use your Galaxy Mini with any GSM carrier.
