Unlock Codes for a HTC Desire: No Technical Knowledge Needed

The HTC Desire is an Android-based smartphone that was released in 2010 and which was considered one of the best phones available at the time. It featured an innovative optical trackpad and was one of the first cell phones to have a full color screen.

All HTC Desires are GSM phones, meaning they can use any GSM network. However, it is shipped with a SIM lock preventing you from being able to use your phone with carriers other than the one from which you purchased it. For unlocking your cell phone, you’ll need an unlock mobile phone code specific to your HTC Desire. The unlock codes are available about six weeks after the phone is manufactured.

Don’t worry that unlocking your phone might damage it. The phones are manufactured unlocked, and the carriers request that the manufacturers add a SIM lock to force the phone to be used with their service. All you are doing is reversing what the manufacturer did, and restoring the factory settings. It does not void your warranty, and your phone will remain unlocked even if HTC updates the phone’s software.

By unlocking your phone, you will be able to use your phone with a local SIM card and local carrier when you travel. This not only saves you money, but increases the resale value of your phone.

If you are a customer in good standing with your carrier, you can call them or go to their store to get the unlock mobile phone code for your phone. Otherwise, for unlocking phones codes can be purchased from third party vendors. Whether your provider gives you the codes for unlocking your cell phone or you buy them from a third party vendor, the procedure to use the unlock codes to unlock your phone is the same.

You also need a SIM card associated with a phone carrier other than the one which is your phone carrier. These are inexpensive, and can be purchased from any cell phone store.

Once you receive the new SIM card and the unlocking phones codes, you don’t need anything else to be able to unlock your mobile phone. All you have to do is follow these steps.

1. Power off your phone.

2. Remove your existing SIM card, and replace it with the new SIM card for a carrier other than the one which is your current carrier.

3. Power on your phone.

4. The phone will ask you for a GSM unlock code.

5. Simply enter the unlock code you were given and click OK.

That’s all there is to unlocking your HTC Desire! Once you have successfully unlocked your phone, you will be able to use any GSM carrier for your HTC Desire.
