The HTC Thunderbolt is a 2011 smartphone designed by HTC specifically to run on the Verizon 4G network. It is basically an HTC Desire HD that has been slightly modified. It runs on the Android operating system, and features many of the same innovations as the Desire HD, such as the scratch resistant glass, a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera for taking photographs and videos, and a front-facing camera for video chatting. This article will tell you how to Unlock The HTC Thunderbolt.

Unlock the Desire HD which is a GSM phone, however, this phone has been optimized to run on the Verizon network. Therefore, at least using the original phone, cell phone unlocking would do you no good, because the phone was not just SIM locked to the network, it didn’t even contain the protocols necessary to converse on other networks. There were customer complaints about the phone’s protocols, and some of the early protocol designs were updated in future software rollouts.

How To Unlock The HTC Thunderbolt?

Cell phone unlocking does not damage phones. To unlock a cell phone, you simply type in the unlock mobile phone code that is the perfect match for the code used to lock the phone in the first place. To ensure a perfect match, you need to look up your unique phone by IMEI number, and find the specific code needed to unlock that unique phone. Your warranty stays active, and after you’re done unlocking your cell phone, it will stay unlocked, even if the software on the Thunderbolt is upgraded. You can also sell an unlocked phone for significantly more than you can sell a locked phone for.

To start unlocking your cell phone you need to get the unlock mobile phone code that matches the code used to lock your phone. The manufacture keeps a database of these codes, sorted by IMEI number to uniquely identify each phone. Therefore, to get the right code for your phone, you need someone who can look up your IMEI in this database.

Your carrier may do it for you, or you can hire an online service to look up the code for you. Your carrier will not charge you for the service, although there may be conditions that you must fulfill for them to do the lookup. Online services charge a fee, but will look up the code for any phone.

You’ll also need to pick up a SIM card for a different carrier. Then follow these steps.

1. Power off your phone.

2. Take out your existing SIM card, and put in the new SIM card.

3. Power on your phone.

4. You may be asked for your new SIM card’s PIN code. If so, enter it.

5. The phone will then ask you to enter a GSM network unlock code.

6. Simply enter the code you were provided with.

Your Thunderbolt is now unlocked.
