Unlock T-Mobile Phone: Insider Secrets

T-Mobile offers many different cell phones and smartphones, from many different manufacturers. While all of these phones start out locked to the T-Mobile network, once you have used the phone for long enough that T-Mobile has recouped the cost of the deeply discounted phone price, you can unlock the phone for use on other networks. You will need a new SIM card associated with whatever network you plan to use.

You can unlock your cell phone in a matter of minutes, provided that you have the right information on hand. The most important item for phone unlocking is your phone’s IMEI number. You need to know that number before you can get the phone unlock codes for your specific phone. Since phone unlock codes are unique for each phone, do not share codes or try to use a code that worked for someone else. In the best case, it will fail to unlock your phone. In the worst case, your phone will become permanently locked, and need to be sent in for service.

You can get free codes for unlocking phones from your service providers. Simply call up T-Mobile’s customer service support phone line, and explain that you’d like to be able to use your phone while travelling internationally with an international prepaid SIM card. As long as you’ve been a good customer for at least 4 months, they’ll generally have no problem looking up and giving out free codes for unlocking phones.

You also have the option of purchasing an unlock code directly from an online vendor of unlock codes. Most of these vendors will include full instructions for unlocking your specific make and model of cell phone with the code. If you go this route, follow their instructions exactly.

The T-Mobile service representative will most likely walk you through the entire phone unlocking process while you’re on the line with them. Depending on your specific make and model of phone, it may be trivially simple, or you may need to pay close attention to their directions. BlackBerry phones are the most complex to unlock, with multiple codes needing to be entered from various menus within the phone.

Follow these instructions in order to Unlock T-Mobile Phone

For most other phones, the process to unlock your cell phone is simple.

1. Power off your phone.

2. Take out your current SIM card. Put in the new SIM card, and close the phone.

3. Power on your phone.

4. The phone will request a code. The code may variously be called a password, network unlock PIN, subsidy code, or restriction code. They all mean the same thing – a code to unlock your phone.

5. Enter the code exactly as you were given it.

That’s all there is to unlocking most T-Mobile phones. Once the phone is unlocked, it can be used with the other SIM card to work on any GSM network.
