The HTC Legend is an Android-based smartphone that was released in 2010 to replace the HTC Hero. It is smaller, sleeker, and more responsive than the Hero. One unique design decision for the Legend is that it has a one-piece body, where the entire shell is made from a single piece of aluminum as opposed to having a front piece and back piece that fit together.
Something not so unique about the HTC Legend is that is has a SIM lock on the phone. The SIM lock prevents you from being able to use your phone with carriers other than the one from which you purchased it, and is installed by HTC at the request of the carriers. You need a cell phone unlock code to unlock the phone, with unique codes required to unlock unique phones by IMEI number. The unlock codes are available about six weeks after the phone is manufactured.
The HTC Legend is a GSM phone, meaning that it is designed to use any GSM network. Unlocking it will let you take advantage of this feature when you travel to use a local carrier, both saving you money on your trip and increasing the resale value of your phone.
Don’t worry that unlocking your phone might damage it. The phones are manufactured unlocked. All you are doing is reversing what the manufacturer did, and restoring the factory settings. It does not void your warranty, and your phone will remain unlocked even if HTC updates the phone’s software.
If you are a customer in good standing with your carrier, you can call them to get the cell phone unlock code for your phone. They may even perform the phone unlocking service for you if you stop in to their store. Otherwise, you can purchase the unlock codes for unique phones by IMEI number from any third party phone unlocking service of the many available online.
You are also going to need a SIM card associated with a phone carrier other than the one which is your current phone carrier. These are inexpensive, and can be purchased from any cell phone store.
To unlock your mobile phone, all you have to do is follow these steps.
1. Power off your phone.
2. Remove your existing SIM card, and replace it with the new SIM card for a carrier other than the one which is your current carrier.
3. Power on your phone.
4. The phone will ask you for the SIM unlock code.
5. Simply enter the unlock code you were given.
